Former Kaduna Central senator and human rights activist, Shehu Sani, has reacted to the controversy surrounding the reported attempted arrest of former Kaduna State Governor and ADC chieftain, Nasir El-Rufai, at the Abuja airport.
The development followed viral reports that El-Rufai was intercepted by security operatives upon his return from Egypt. According to accounts circulating online, the former governor was approached by security officials shortly after landing in Abuja. The situation reportedly escalated, with supporters of El-Rufai allegedly intervening and preventing the operatives from taking him into custody.
The incident generated widespread reactions across social media, with many Nigerians debating whether the move was politically motivated or a legitimate security action.
Reacting via his official X handle, Shehu Sani drew parallels between the situation and the case of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, often referred to by his supporters as Mazi Nnamdi Kanu (MNK). Sani noted that individuals who previously insisted that “nobody is above the law” during Kanu’s legal battles should be reminded of their earlier stance in light of the El-Rufai incident.
According to Sani’s post, those who were vocal in asserting the supremacy of the law during Kanu’s prosecution should maintain the same position regardless of the personality involved.
His comments quickly sparked further debate, with some Nigerians interpreting his statement as a call for consistency in upholding the rule of law, while others viewed it as a subtle critique of selective outrage in politically sensitive cases.
