According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday, September 18, 2025, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has dismissed reports claiming that he suffered a heart attack during a recent trip to London.
He clarified that his visit abroad was simply for rest and not for medical reasons as speculated by some individuals on social media.
Wike criticized those behind the rumor and warned that they were the ones likely to face health challenges.
The minister, while speaking at the flag-off of the construction of Arterial Road N1 from Wuye District to Ring Road II in Abuja, expressed displeasure over the spread of false news.
He noted that it has become common in the country for people to circulate misleading information without consequences.
He further stressed that the practice of spreading baseless claims could create unnecessary tension among the public.
Wike explained that those who accused him of having a heart attack would instead be the ones to experience such misfortune.
According to him, it was irresponsible for people to misuse social media platforms to misinform citizens.
He added that such behavior only weakens trust in information channels and distracts from developmental efforts.
Addressing the audience at the event, the minister pointed out that social media has become a space where falsehoods are easily shared about leaders.
He gave an example of how people go online and label even the president with derogatory names without repercussions.
Wike emphasized that freedom of expression should not be abused in ways that could damage reputations or mislead the public.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for upholding the rule of law despite the challenges of misinformation.
Wike stated that Nigerians are fortunate to have a leader who does not act outside the law even when provoked by untrue allegations.
He urged citizens to value this commitment to democratic principles and avoid actions that could undermine it.
The minister also highlighted that his focus remains on ensuring infrastructural development in the FCT.
By flagging off the construction of Arterial Road N1, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving road networks in Abuja.
He noted that such projects are aimed at easing traffic congestion and boosting economic activities in the capital city.
Wike maintained that he would not be distracted by rumors and misinformation.
Instead, he said his priority is to deliver projects that directly impact the lives of residents.
He called on Nigerians to ignore baseless reports and pay attention to the tangible progress being made in the FCT under the current administration.
He said: “This is a country where somebody go on social media and say Mr President is a criminal and nothing will happen. You are lucky to have a president that believes in the rule of law, you are lucky and continue to be lucky.
