Elder Sara-Igbe, a prominent elder statesman and National Coordinator of the South-South Elders Forum, has voiced significant concerns regarding the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State. He criticized the Rivers State House of Assembly for its aggressive moves to undermine the executive branch. The elder statesman suggested that the legislative arm has shifted its focus away from governance, opting instead for a path of confrontation that threatens the state, stability.

According to a video posted on the Official YouTube channel of SYMFONI, while addressing the financial allegations against the state lawmakers, the activist stated, “you are asking the Governor for 1 billion Naira or you will impeach him.” This claim highlights the perceived transactional nature of the current impeachment plot, where funds are allegedly demanded in exchange for political peace. For many observers, this reveals a deep rot within the state’s political system.

The elder statesman further alleged that the lawmakers are acting out a script designed to bankrupt the state and stall all meaningful development. He noted that while the lawmakers claim to be fighting for the constitution, their actions appear to be driven by personal gain. By allegedly demanding such a massive sum from the governor, the assembly is accused of turning the legislative process into a tool for financial blackmail and political coercion.
