Wike Tables Fubara’s Matter Before Ateke Tom – “We Have Taken Our Decision, Do Not Interfere

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has paid a strategic visit to the Amanyanabo of Okochiri Kingdom, King Ateke Tom, delivering a clear message regarding the political crisis in Rivers State: The decision has been made, and there is no room for intervention.

Speaking during the visit to Ogu/Bolo, Wike described the monarch as a close friend but firmly warned that their friendship would not extend to political interference in the ongoing battle with Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The former Governor revealed that he came to “brief” Ateke Tom on the situation out of respect, but emphasized that the briefing was for information purposes only, not for mediation.

“I came to tell you because you are my friend, but we have taken our decision,” Wike reportedly told the monarch. “This information is just for your ears, not for participation. Do not interfere. We are not looking for settlement; we are looking for correction.”

Wike advised King Ateke Tom to protect his throne by staying neutral and focusing on maintaining peace in his kingdom, commending him for the lack of crisis in Ogu/Bolo.

“I don’t want to involve traditional rulers in politics. You have done well keeping your kingdom peaceful. Please remain a traditional ruler and leave the politics to us,” Wike stated.

In his response, King Ateke Tom welcomed the Minister warmly, reminding Wike that he holds a traditional title in the land and that the plot of land gifted to him for building a house is still available. The monarch avoided direct political comments, choosing instead to focus on the personal bond between them.

Political observers interpret Wike’s visit as a move to “neutralize” potential peacemakers, ensuring that when the next phase of the political battle begins, powerful figures like Ateke Tom will stand aside.
