During an interview with SYMFONI, civil society leader Comrade Obidi Emmanuel issued a strong caution about the dangers of unchecked ministerial power, stressing that no public official should become a liability to the administration they were appointed to support.
Emmanuel argued that ministers are entrusted with authority to strengthen governance, not to generate controversy or public resentment that weakens confidence in government.
He noted that when the conduct of a single official begins to dominate negative headlines, it distracts from policy goals and undermines collective responsibility within the cabinet.
According to the activist, history has shown that governments rarely collapse overnight but are often eroded gradually by internal excesses.
He explained that persistent public outrage tied to one minister’s actions can slowly chip away at credibility, making it difficult for the administration to defend its broader agenda.
Emmanuel further emphasized that loyalty to government should not be measured by noise, aggression, or political muscle, but by discipline, restraint, and respect for institutions.
In his view, a minister who thrives on confrontation or controversy risks turning governance into spectacle rather than service.
Emmanuel also warned that citizens do not always separate individual misconduct from the administration as a whole.
When a minister appears to act with impunity, the public often assumes presidential approval or weakness, a perception that can severely damage leadership authority.
The activist called on the presidency to exercise firm oversight over its appointees, insisting that corrective action is not a sign of weakness but of strength.
He said timely intervention can prevent minor issues from escalating into national crises that overshadow governance achievements.
Emmanuel maintained that effective leadership requires ensuring that every minister contributes positively to stability and public trust.
He stressed that no official, regardless of influence or political value, should be allowed to become the spark that ignites public anger against the very government they are meant to uphold.
“No minister should be allowed to become the problem that destroys the government he serves,” he added.
