Wike: If The President Does Not Call Him To Order, He May Become The Next Victim -Frank Tietie

Frank Tietie, a prominent Nigerian human rights lawyer, has raised serious concerns over the growing political influence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, particularly as it affects Rivers State politics and Nigeria’s democracy.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Tietie warned that unchecked political power could have dangerous consequences, even for those currently at the centre of authority.

According to him, “If the president does not call him to order, he may become the next victim.”

The lawyer stressed that no individual should wield influence that overshadows institutions or the presidency itself.

Tietie’s comments come amid claims by the FCT minister that he has successfully united members of both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State. The claim has sparked debate, especially since leaders of both parties have publicly stated that Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains the recognised political leader of the state.

During the interview, Tietie argued that political power in Nigeria is meant to flow through political parties and established structures, not through personal influence or intimidation.

He noted that when a single political figure positions himself above party leadership, governors, and institutions, it creates instability and weakens democracy.

He also recalled how political tension in Rivers State previously led to governance challenges, court battles, and uncertainty that slowed down development. According to him, such situations harm ordinary citizens who suffer when leaders focus more on power struggles than governance.

Tietie further explained that strong language, threats, and warnings from political figures can be as damaging as physical violence. He said such rhetoric creates fear and deepens division, especially in politically sensitive states like Rivers.

While acknowledging the minister’s political experience and achievements, Tietie insisted that loyalty to democratic norms must come before personal ambition. He maintained that allowing one individual to dominate political space without restraint could set a dangerous precedent for Nigeria.

It is the responsibility of party leaders, political institutions, and the presidency to ensure balance. Without clear boundaries, Tietie warned, political power could be misused, threatening accountability, stability, and the future of democratic governance in Nigeria.
