Kenneth Okonkwo, a seasoned actor and leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has expressed concerns regarding the political agreements involving Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and Governor-elect Siminalayi Fubara.
In a discussion with SYMFONI TV, Okonkwo highlighted the implications of Fubara’s transition from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He noted, “If Fubara had any agreements while in the PDP and then the APC provided him with a new agreement, your previous agreement is no longer valid because it’s not with the same parties.” This points to the potential invalidity of past political arrangements once Fubara changed his party allegiance.
Okonkwo’s statements reflect a growing anxiety about shifting political alliances in Rivers State. Analysts assert that political agreements are typically tied to specific parties, and a change in affiliation can undermine previously negotiated arrangements. He argued that any understanding Wike established with Fubara under the PDP may not carry weight within the APC.
This viewpoint emerges as political analysts assess Fubara’s switch from PDP to APC, suggesting that such transitions can affect governance and power-sharing dynamics in the state. Okonkwo’s comments emphasize the intricate nature of political negotiations in Rivers State, where loyalty, party membership, and changing alliances greatly influence the validity of agreements.
