Wike: I Don’t Think A Minister Should Be Talking To Any Officer In That Form, Is A Shame- Akeregha

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Igho Akeregha, a member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, has spoken out following the recent incident involving FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and military officers in Abuja’s Gaduwa District.

The confrontation occurred when soldiers reportedly blocked the minister and officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) from accessing a disputed parcel of land.

According to Akeregha, the minister’s manner of addressing the soldiers was uncalled for and undermined the professionalism and sacrifice of military personnel.

He stressed that public officials must exercise restraint and decorum when interacting with citizens and security officers.

“I do not think a governor or a minister should be talking to any Nigerian citizen in that form. Talk less a serving military officer. These are people, individuals who have laid down their lives for the rest of us. I mean this is a shame honestly speaking this morning,” Akeregha stated.

The soldiers were allegedly acting under the instructions of former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo (rtd).

Prior to the confrontation, personnel from the FCTA’s Department of Development Control had visited the site to warn that the land lacked proper documentation and was within a road buffer zone where construction was prohibited.

The warning was reportedly ignored, prompting the minister’s intervention and the subsequent standoff.
