Jungudo Mohammed, spokesperson for the PDP National Caretaker Committee, has defended the political position of Nyesom Wike, stating that there is no evidence to suggest he belongs to the APC.
Speaking during an interview on Channels TV, Mohammed described Wike, who currently serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as an important figure in Nigeria’s political space. He explained that Wike’s influence and experience make him valuable to any political party.
Mohammed also addressed concerns about Wike’s relationship with the ruling party. He said that although Wike works under the APC-led government, this does not automatically make him a member of the party. According to him, Wike has not publicly declared membership in the APC or taken part in its official activities.
He further dismissed claims that the PDP is secretly supporting the APC. He assured Nigerians that the party remains committed to presenting its own candidates in future elections and will not back President Tinubu.
On the issue of some PDP governors defecting to the APC, Mohammed said Wike should not be blamed for their decisions. He explained that each politician makes personal choices based on their own reasons.
He urged Nigerians to be patient with the PDP, stressing that allegations against the party and Wike are aimed at weakening the opposition rather than reflecting the true situation.
