During an interview on Trust TV, the Director of Publicity for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bala Ibrahim, reacted to the ongoing political tensions involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. Ibrahim addressed fears that Wike’s current political movements and influence might create instability within the APC, especially as he continues to feature in national political discussions despite being a member of the PDP.
Ibrahim noted that Wike’s presence has already caused discomfort within the opposition, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where internal crises intensified after Wike publicly aligned with the APC-led federal administration. He argued that Wike’s political style has been a source of internal disruption for his former party and that some Nigerians now assume he could attempt the same within the APC.
The APC chieftain, however, dismissed such concerns, insisting that the ruling party has the structure and internal cohesion to manage any political figure, regardless of their influence. According to him, the APC is prepared to integrate Wike’s political energy in a way that strengthens the party rather than destabilizes it.
He added that the APC has mechanisms to preserve order in situations where political actors attempt to exert overwhelming influence. Ibrahim stressed that the ruling party would not allow any individual, no matter how prominent, to create discord or distract from its broader goals and governance agenda.
According to him, “The FCT Minister Wike had given them stomach ache and he’s coming to introduce headache to us, but fortunately APC by name is an antidote for headache. We’ll handle it in a way and manner that it’ll not be a melody at all.”
