Why Do We’ve People Who Think You’re Not A Good Muslim Unless You’re Fighting A Christian? -Ahmed

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has expressed deep concern over the growing religious and ethnic divisions in Nigeria, warning that such divisions are being deliberately exploited by certain individuals for selfish interests.

Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Baba-Ahmed pointed out that some people have turned the country’s religious and ethnic diversity into tools of manipulation, fueling mistrust and hostility among citizens.

He explained that the continuous tension between Christians and Muslims has been worsened by those who profit from such divisions, making it difficult for Nigerians to unite and address pressing national challenges. Baba-Ahmed emphasized that these manipulative tactics have kept the country in a state of disunity and weakness, as citizens remain trapped in conflicts driven by faith, ethnicity, and regional bias.

In his words: “Why do we have people who think that you’re not a good Muslim unless you’re fighting a Christian, and that you’re not a good enough Christian unless you resist everything that remotely looks like pandering to Muslims or appeasing Muslims? My understanding of this is that there are people whose job entirely is to exploit these fault lines for their own interests, and to keep us permanently on our knees because we’re unable to overcome the issues that divide us on the basis of faith, ethnicity, or where we come from.
