In a video shared by Symfoni TV, lawyer and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo, has expressed concern over the deepening leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that the situation could have serious electoral consequences.
Okonkwo spoke while reacting to the ongoing dispute over the authentic national leadership of the PDP, noting that the internal divisions have created widespread confusion, even among key institutions responsible for managing elections in the country.
According to him, the crisis has reached a level where the party’s legal standing ahead of future elections could be jeopardized.
He stated, “Who is the chairman of PDP? Even the INEC chairman is confused as to who the chairman of PDP is. He had to call all of them. You know, that meeting he called if you ask me, I’ll say in my opinion he just wants to give them notice that if they continue like this, they may not have candidates for the election because none of the factions is recognizable by law.”
Okonkwo further noted that the involvement of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in calling meetings with PDP factions highlights the severity of the situation.
He suggested that such intervention was unusual and indicative of concerns about compliance with electoral laws.
