When Wike Was Giving Billions To Benue, Sokoto, Abia, & Lagos, Did They Ever Question Him?- Sara-igbe

According to a report by Symfoni TV, on Saturday, January 31, 2026, elder statesman Anabs Sara-Igbe voiced strong criticism against the current political establishment in Rivers State. He accused leaders of applying a double standard by scrutinising the present governor’s financial dealings while having remained silent during the previous administration.

During a public forum, Sara-Igbe highlighted a perceived inconsistency in how lawmakers and political figures responded to the actions of former Governor Nyesom Wike.

He pointed out that Wike frequently allocated substantial funds to various states across Nigeria without facing significant opposition or inquiry from the same individuals now demanding accountability.

He said, “When Wike was dishing out billions to states like Benue State, Sokoto State, Abia State and Lagos State, where were they? Did they ever question him?”

Through this statement, Sara-Igbe argued that such selective oversight damages the integrity of the state’s political framework and suggests that the current pressure on the governor is driven by ulterior motives rather than genuine concern for transparency.

The elder statesman also expressed deep concern regarding the brewing impeachment threats against the governor and his deputy. He specifically defended the deputy governor, asserting that there is no evidence of financial misconduct to justify involving her in political manoeuvres aimed at destabilising the executive branch.

He warned that these distractions are detrimental to the welfare of the people and are currently obstructing the state’s progress.

Furthermore, Sara-Igbe observed that the ongoing political friction has already begun to stall vital infrastructure projects. He cautioned that if these tensions persist, the everyday citizens of Rivers State will ultimately bear the burden.

He urged political actors to pivot away from partisan hostility and instead foster an environment of peace, unity, and synergy between the legislative and executive arms of government.

Reminding the public of the long history and significance of Rivers State, he emphasised that the region requires stable leadership focused on advancement. He maintained that the well-being of the populace should always take precedence over individual political ambitions.

Sara-Igbe called for a return to responsible governance and respect for democratic ideals. He insisted that the financial precedents set by past administrations, including Wike’s, should serve as a reference point for treating current leaders with fairness and consistency.

As the atmosphere in Rivers State remains fraught with tension, his appeal centres on the necessity of accountability and a collective dedication to state development.
