According to a report by Channels Television on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 by 7:00PM, the former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has called for the development of Bauchi State into a leading center for tourism and international engagement in Nigeria.
Speaking during an event captured by Channels Television on Wednesday, Obasanjo emphasized that Bauchi possesses the natural endowments and infrastructure capable of transforming it into one of the country’s most attractive destinations for both local and international visitors.
According to the former President, Bauchi is blessed with unique features that rival, and in some cases surpass, what other countries proudly showcase to the world.
“What others have and pride themselves about is not much more than what we have,” Obasanjo said, stressing that Nigeria must learn to appreciate and develop its own resources instead of constantly admiring what exists elsewhere.
He particularly highlighted the state’s wild park and game reserve, which he described as a potential goldmine for tourism if properly managed and developed.
“Some people don’t even have half of what we have. We have a wild park, a game center that can be developed and made one of the major tourist attractions in Nigeria,” Obasanjo added.
The former leader further noted that Bauchi’s potential extends beyond wildlife and natural attractions.
He pointed out that the state already has facilities such as an international conference center and hotels capable of hosting international discussions, conventions, and business meetings.
“Those who will come will be able to stay in a hotel, interact, and have discussion conferences in this international conference center and make Bauchi the center of attraction, the center of tourism for Nigeria,” he said.
Obasanjo’s remarks serve as a call to action for government authorities, investors, and tourism stakeholders to channel resources toward harnessing Bauchi’s potential.
By investing in infrastructure, hospitality, and environmental preservation, Bauchi could emerge as a thriving hub for tourism and economic growth, putting Nigeria more prominently on the global tourism map. See, More, Here>>>>
