What Kind Of Party Leader Invites The President Of Another Country To Come Resolve Issues– Showunmi

Segun Showunmi has criticized Turaki, the newly elected chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for appealing to former U.S. President Donald Trump and the international community for assistance in resolving the party’s internal issues. Showunmi expressed his astonishment and disappointment that a leader of a significant political party would seek external aid for problems that originated within Nigeria.

In a video posted by TVC News, he articulated that political party leaders should grasp the fundamental principles of democracy and the legal framework. He asserted that serious disputes within a party should be settled through legal channels, rather than relying on foreign interference. He emphasized that Nigeria’s legal system offers adequate processes for addressing political conflicts, starting with the trial court and escalating to the Court of Appeal when necessary.

Showunmi further remarked that it is inappropriate for party officials, particularly those who are accomplished lawyers, to act as if they can disregard court rulings or establish their own regulations. He maintained that democracy relies on respecting judicial decisions, even if those decisions may be inconvenient for one side. If an individual or group disagrees with a court ruling, the proper course of action is to appeal, not to seek the intervention of another nation.

He questioned, “What kind of party leader stands before his own party and invites the president of another country to assist in resolving issues they themselves created? Especially one who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).”
