We visited the church where the so-called kidnap took place, no evidence of any attack–Dauda Madaki

According to a report by Punch Newspaper, on Monday, January 19, 2026,The Kaduna State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Muhammad Rabiu, has described reports of the kidnapping of 163 worshippers in Kajuru Local Government Area as false.

He clarified that the claims circulating on social media were unfounded and urged the public to verify information before sharing it.

The police commissioner also emphasized the importance of maintaining peace in the state. Confirming the falsehood of the reports, he said that no police report or record of such an incident had been received by the command.

Alhaji Muhammad Rabiu addressed reporters after the State Security Council meeting at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House on Monday.

He challenged anyone making the claim to provide the names of the alleged victims along with other relevant details.

The commissioner insisted that spreading false reports could create unnecessary panic among residents and disrupt the relative calm in the affected areas.

He further warned that anyone found circulating such claims could face legal consequences under Nigerian law.

In his statement, Alhaji Muhammad Rabiu noted that security agencies in the state continue to monitor all communities to ensure safety.

He said that the police maintain a robust presence in Kajuru Local Government Area and other parts of Kaduna State. The commissioner added that the security forces were ready to respond promptly to any verified threats or incidents in the state.

Speaking on the matter, the Chairman of Kajuru Local Government Area, Dauda Madaki, said that he personally mobilised the police and other security agencies to Kurmin Wali community following the rumours of the alleged attack.

Upon inspection, he confirmed that no such incident had occurred.

He stated that the community and local leaders had not reported any cases of abduction or violence.

Dauda Madaki said, “We visited the church where the so-called kidnap took place. There was no evidence of any attack.

I asked the village head, Mai Dan Zaria, and he said there was no such incident.” He added that the local leaders cooperated fully with the security personnel to verify the claims.

The chairman also interviewed the youth leader of the area, Bernard Bona, who confirmed that no such abduction took place.

Bernard Bona spoke to journalists who accompanied the inspection team and reiterated that the reports were baseless.

The authorities said they would continue to monitor the situation to prevent the spread of false information in the future.

Alhaji Muhammad Rabiu concluded by urging the public to remain vigilant and report only verified information to the police.

He emphasized that false reports of crime, including kidnapping, could undermine community trust and security efforts. “We call on residents to provide accurate details and cooperate with security agencies to maintain peace,” he said.
