According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Saturday, March 14, 2026, former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, on Saturday in Abuja publicly expressed strong support for the performance of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the Nigerian leader is carrying out his responsibilities to the best of his ability across various sectors of national administration.
The former military ruler made the remarks during an interaction with journalists after visiting the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja, the official residence and workplace of the Nigerian president.
During the visit, Gowon spoke about his assessment of the administration’s efforts and indicated that the government under Tinubu was making visible attempts to address issues affecting the country through different policy directions and governance initiatives.
Gowon explained that from his perspective there was no specific sector that he believed required additional focus or improvement beyond what the current administration was already doing, as he maintained that the president was making efforts across the board.
The former head of state described the visit to the Presidential Villa as an opportunity to personally acknowledge the work being done by Tinubu and to show appreciation for the direction in which the government was steering national affairs.
According to him, the purpose of the meeting with the president was also connected to his desire to recognise what he described as positive developments taking place in Nigeria, including areas relating to economic activities and other aspects of national life.
Gowon’s remarks formed part of his broader reflection on the country’s situation under the present administration, where he indicated that the leadership had been engaged in various efforts aimed at managing the affairs of the state and addressing challenges faced by citizens.
The elder statesman, who served as Nigeria’s head of state during the military era, has remained an influential national figure whose public statements on governance and national development continue to attract attention in political and civic circles.
His appearance at the Presidential Villa and the comments he delivered there highlighted a show of support for the incumbent president at a time when the administration continues to implement policies and programmes intended to influence the country’s economic and governance landscape.
“We had to look at all the good work that the President is doing and the progress that Nigeria is making economically and otherwise,” Gowon said….See More
