The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has explained why some people may not be happy with the new hybrid solar street lighting project being introduced in Abuja.

In a video shared by TVC News, speaking at the flag-off of the project, Wike said the government has decided that the company handling the project will also take responsibility for its maintenance. According to him, in the past, maintenance contracts were often used as an excuse to waste public funds and sabotage government efforts. He stressed that this new arrangement will prevent such misuse and ensure better accountability.

Wike admitted that the move might upset individuals who used to benefit from the old system. He predicted that some people would attack him and his team using different excuses, including tribal and religious sentiments. He noted that critics could claim that certain groups are benefiting more than others, or even stir up unnecessary debates on social media and in the media.

However, the minister made it clear that neither he nor his team would be distracted by such criticisms. He emphasized that the decision to carry out the project in this way has already been made, and no amount of public complaints or online backlash will stop it.

In his words, “We don’t care, if you like post as much as you can on your social media, if you like consult people to go to TV and talk, if you like call CNN, we have taken a decision.Continue, Full, Reading>>>>
