‎We Amended ADC Clause Which Stopped New Members From Immediately Contesting And INEC Was There—Founder

‎‎In a recent interview with Daily Independent on Thursday, April 9, 2026, Chief Ralph Nwosu, the founder and former National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has stated that the party changed its constitution to allow coalition members to contest for positions immediately.

‎He explained that initially, the party required anyone joining to wait two years before they could hold office or run for elections, this rule was meant to prevent problems based on past experiences and to maintain stability within the party.

‎He stated that with the formation of a general coalition, the National Executive Committee decided to remove clauses that made it impossible for new members to hold positions or contest elections right away, the amendment ensures that all new members can participate fully from the moment they join.

‎He stated that INEC observed the amendment to make sure the process was transparent, Nwosu said the change was needed because the party wanted to open up to other groups and stakeholders who were interested in building a strong coalition.

‎He added that the NEC carefully considered the decision to make sure it matched the party’s goals, the amendment allows the coalition to include new members without restricting their involvement, and it encourages cooperation among all participants.

‎Nwosu stated that the change is important for preparing the party for future elections, it demonstrates ADC’s commitment to inclusiveness and political collaboration while creating a platform where all coalition partners can contribute effectively.

‎”We amended ADC clause which would stop new members from immediately contesting under ADC platform. And INEC was there also. We did that because, initially we had said anybody coming into our party would take two years before he or she can be an officer or even contest an election because of our past experiences,” he said….See More
