Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated clearly that the United States has not demanded that Tehran permanently halt uranium enrichment activities.
According to a report by Iran International on February 20, 2026, he directly refuted various media reports suggesting Washington insisted on zero enrichment as a condition for any agreement.
During his appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Araghchi described the recent discussions held in Geneva as constructive and productive.
Both sides successfully identified and agreed upon key guiding principles that could serve as the foundation for a potential comprehensive deal.
The Iranian minister emphasized that neither party has put forward extreme positions on the enrichment issue.
The United States has not requested complete cessation of enrichment, and Iran has not proposed any temporary suspension of its program.
Instead, the current focus of negotiations centers on establishing reliable mechanisms to guarantee that Iran’s entire nuclear program, including uranium enrichment, remains exclusively peaceful and will stay peaceful indefinitely into the future.
Araghchi firmly asserted that no military solution exists for addressing concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear activities.
Diplomacy represents the only viable and realistic path forward.
He confirmed Iran’s readiness to pursue serious negotiations while simultaneously maintaining full preparedness to defend itself if necessary.
The foreign minister recalled that following the previous twelve-day conflict, Iran’s adversaries ultimately had no choice but to seek an unconditional ceasefire, underscoring the country’s defensive capabilities.
Technical measures currently under active discussion aim to provide strong assurances about the peaceful nature of the program.
