US, Israel: Again They Attacked Iran’s Peaceful, Safeguarded Nuclear Facilities Yesterday-Najafi

According to a report by Al Jazeera on February 2, 2026, Iran’s representative to the United Nations nuclear watchdog confirmed that the country’s extensive nuclear complex at Natanz was targeted during joint military operations carried out by the United States and Israel on Sunday.

Reza Najafi, Iran’s ambassador to the UN’s nuclear monitoring body, disclosed the development while addressing journalists during a session of the governing board of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The board, which consists of representatives from 35 member nations, had convened to discuss ongoing nuclear oversight and regional security concerns.

Speaking at the meeting, Najafi condemned the strike and reiterated Iran’s position that its nuclear activities remain peaceful and under international supervision. “Again they attacked Iran’s peaceful, safeguarded ⁠nuclear facilities yesterday,” he told reporters, emphasizing that the installations were operating within the framework of international monitoring agreements.

The ambassador’s remarks came amid rising tensions following reports of coordinated military actions involving US and Israeli forces. The Natanz facility, one of Iran’s most significant nuclear sites, has long been central to international discussions over Tehran’s nuclear program and has previously been the focus of disputes between Iran and Western governments.

When asked by the Reuters news agency to clarify which specific locations had been struck during the operation, Najafi said: “Natanz.”
