Political Public Affairs Analyst, Barrister Darlington Agomuo has expressed deep concern over the circumstances surrounding the capture and killing of Brigadier General Muhammed Uba by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
Speaking during an interview on Voice of the People 90.3FM, Agomuo suggested that the tragic incident may have been facilitated by an internal security compromise.
Reacting to the emerging details, Agomuo questioned how the insurgents were able to locate and overpower such a senior military officer without assistance. He argued that videos shared by Brigadier General Uba during operations might have unintentionally revealed his movements to hostile elements. According to him, the precision with which ISWAP executed the attack raises the possibility of sabotage from within.
“Somebody was getting Intel while he was showing all these videos telling them where he was. Somebody got it and it’s not a friendly enemy,” Agomuo stated, stressing that the situation points to a worrying lapse in intelligence management.
The analyst explained that while field commanders often record operational activities to boost troop morale or document progress, such materials can become dangerous if intercepted or leaked. He maintained that the attackers appeared to act on insider information, insisting that only individuals with privileged access could have relayed such sensitive details to the insurgents.
Agomuo called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the events leading up to the killing, urging the military to identify possible collaborators who may be aiding terrorist groups. He emphasized the need for stricter handling of operational intelligence and tighter controls around sensitive communication.
