According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Friday, Sept. 19, 2025, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has firmly rejected Israeli claims over a historic artifact, stating that Türkiye will not surrender even a single piece of heritage belonging to Jerusalem to Israel.
Speaking at TEKNOFEST, Türkiye’s leading aviation, space, and technology festival, Erdogan specifically addressed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent demands concerning the Silvan Epigraph, a significant ancient Hebrew inscription housed at the Istanbul Archaeology Museum.
“They pursue the Silvan Epigraph. We will not give you even a single pebble belonging to Jerusalem,” Erdogan declared on Friday. He recalled Netanyahu’s repeated requests for the artifact, adding, “He is spewing hatred at us because we did not hand over the Silvan Epigraph, which is a legacy of the ancestors.”
The Silvan Inscription, also known as the Silvan Epigraph, is considered one of the most important ancient Hebrew inscriptions in existence and has been preserved at the Istanbul Archaeology Museum since it was discovered in East Jerusalem during the Ottoman era. Erdogan emphasized that this artifact, along with other historical treasures, forms part of Türkiye’s cultural and historical heritage.
TEKNOFEST, organized by Türkiye’s Industry and Technology Ministry in collaboration with the T3 Foundation, is the world’s largest technology festival and is being held at Istanbul Atatürk Airport from September 17 to 21. During his keynote address, Erdogan used the platform to link Türkiye’s commitment to preserving historical artifacts with broader geopolitical issues in the region.
In his remarks, Erdogan condemned Israel’s recent actions in Gaza and linked them to the broader struggle for Palestinian sovereignty. “I say this to murderers, having the blood of 65,000 innocent Gazans on their hands. Quds is the honor, dignity, and pride of all humanity, including Muslims,” he said, referring to Jerusalem by its Arabic name, Quds.
The Turkish president reaffirmed his country’s support for Palestinian independence, stressing that Türkiye’s efforts will continue against any schemes aimed at undermining Palestinian rights. He reiterated that an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital within the 1967 borders remains Türkiye’s ultimate objective.CONTINUE, FULL, READING>>>>
