Professor Udenta O. Udenta, Director General of the African Writers Institute, has warned that President Trump’s threat of military intervention in Nigeria could deepen divisions between Christians and Muslims, potentially benefiting the ruling APC’s political narrative.
Speaking in an interview with Symfoni TV, Professor Udenta cautioned against viewing Trump’s statements as a solution to Nigeria’s problems. “I don’t want that victim mentality that this is a Christian global conspiracy against Islam. The APC is going to say we told you so if we yield ground on Sharia and other matters in the north, the Christians is going to wipe everybody out.”
He also claimed that the Northern Islamic clerics are already apprehensive about the situation. “We can see that Muslims now are under immense pressure, they are already believing that their survival is even under threat,” he said.
He warned that Trump’s intervention threats could be weaponized by political actors to portray Western involvement as an attempt to Christianize northern Nigeria and eliminate Sharia law.
Professor Udenta further urged Christian leaders, including pastors, preachers, and evangelists, to recognize that emotional responses alone cannot address Nigeria’s complex ethno-religious tensions.
