Trump pledged to intervene if Zohran Mamdani attempts to order for the arrest of Netanyahu

President Donald Trump had pledged to intervene directly if New York City mayoral Candidate Zohran Mamdani attempts to carry out his promise to order the NYPD to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in compliance with the issuance of arrest warrants for the Prime Minister of the State of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for war crimes in Palestinian territories during any future visit to the city.

According to a report by the Jerusalem Post on Friday 19 September, 2025, the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, dismissed the idea of New York City mayoral Candidate Zohran Mamdani to order the NYPD to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in compliance with the issuance of arrest warrants for Benjamin Netanyahu, and other top Israeli Ministers by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for war crimes in Palestinian territories during any future visit to the city as inappropriate, signaling a firm commitment to protecting foreign leaders from legal actions he views as politically motivated.

The fiery remarks of President Donald Trump came after Zohran Mamdani, a progressive state assemblymember running for mayor told one of the top American media outlets that he would direct city police to detain Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pursuant to the International Criminal Court’s 2024 arrest warrant, justifying his position by stating, New York was city that their values were in line with international law.

“As mayor, New York City would arrest Benjamin Netanyahu. This is a city that our values are in line with international law. My answer is the same whether we are speaking about Vladimir Putin or Netanyahu. I think that this should be a city that is in compliance with international law,” Mamdani, stated.
