Nigerian politician Dele Momodu has expressed concern over political rhetoric in the country, reacting to a statement he said was made by a Yoruba figure warning against opposition to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the South-West.
Momodu made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television, where he spoke about rising political tensions and loyalty politics ahead of future elections.
According to him, he recently came across a statement from someone he described as a “Yoruba warlord,” who allegedly threatened severe consequences for anyone opposing Tinubu in Yoruba land.
Momodu said the comment surprised him because he considers the individual a personal acquaintance.
According to him, “Today, I just read of a Yoruba warlord threatening hellfire for anyone who opposes Tinubu in Yoruba land… and I shook my head because this is the man I consider my brother.”
He suggested that some individuals may be making such statements in an attempt to align themselves with those in power, possibly hoping to secure acceptance or protection from the current administration.
Momodu added that the situation made him question the direction of the country’s politics.
