Tinubu is capturing the South East– Fr Kelvin Ugwu reacts to Peter Mbah’s defection

A Catholic missionary priest serving in The Gambia, Rev. Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, has reacted to the defection of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a Facebook post on 14th October 2025, Fr. Kelvin stated that following his defection, Governor Mbah had strongly asserted that it would be a grave mistake for any state leader not to support President Bola Tinubu’s potential 2027 presidential bid.

The priest further observed that Tinubu was steadily consolidating his influence across the country, winning over key political figures and gaining increasing support from the South East. As an example, he cited the Abia State Governor, who, according to him, now speaks of Tinubu with a sense of apprehension.

Fr. Kelvin attributed this growing caution among political leaders to Tinubu’s perceived political strength, referencing his alleged role in the political crisis in Rivers State, where he reportedly influenced the removal of an elected governor. The priest suggested that this development has made many leaders tread carefully in their dealings with the president.

He partly wrote, “Indeed, there is something about Baba T, his plans are working. He is converting everyone. He is capturing South East.”
