In an interview with Channels Television, former PDP presidential candidate, Chief Dele Momodu, expressed sympathy for President Bola Tinubu over his current predicament with the United States government regarding the alleged killings of Christians in Nigeria.
Momodu said he felt for the president after watching his recent address, describing the moment as a difficult period for Nigeria’s leadership and urging Tinubu to act with wisdom and strategy.
Momodu emphasized that this is not the best time to be president, noting that Tinubu now faces immense pressure both domestically and internationally.
He advised the president to focus on building a credible team of diplomats and representatives who possess the intellectual and moral capacity to engage effectively with global powers. According to Momodu, Nigeria needs competent voices who can command respect on the international stage, not political loyalists without global influence.
He pointed out that while Tinubu has proven his political strength by rallying governors across Nigeria to join his political party, the current crisis demands more than politics.
In his words, “So the President needs to get people who have the capacity to speak and will be listened to. Not all these political jobbers. The president is very good at politicking. Oh, he can get all the governors in Nigeria today to join the APC but we have passed that stage now.”
“Two weeks ago, if anybody told you that President Tinubu would be in this precarious situation, all you would have said, no, it’s not possible. But I saw him speaking last night, and I must confess, I felt for him.”
“Because this is not the best of times to be the President of Nigeria. He now has to put on the thinking cap for himself, for his team, and for all of us in Nigeria.”
