Tinubu Didn’t See Me Fit To Be Appointed Ambassador Untill We Had The Current Crisis” —Baba Ahmed

According to a report by Channels TV, on Sunday November 30, 2025, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, has expressed strong criticism regarding the timing of the President’s recent appointment of ambassadors, calling the decision very late given the ambassadors’ limited remaining tenure.

Baba-Ahmed, known for his forthright commentary, stated that he would not praise the President’s move, especially since the issue of diplomatic representation had been raised numerous times before.

“I’m not going to chair President Tinubu. I would say this is very late,” he remarked.

He highlighted the short window the newly appointed ambassadors will have to serve before their inevitable exit from the diplomatic posts.

“These these outgoing ambassadors are going to serve for maybe a little bit less than maybe a year and a half.”

Baba-Ahmed emphasized that the necessity for these appointments was discussed well in advance of the current situation but was not acted upon until a crisis emerged.

“We’ve raised the issue of ambassadors and ambassadors appointment of ambassadors many times before. Unfortunately the president didn’t see me fit to be appointed ambassadors until we had the current crisis that we have.”

Concluding his critique, the former adviser reiterated his firm view that the appointments were delayed, although he acknowledged the decision has been finalized.

“So unfortunately my opinion is that this should have come a long time ago, but that’s already a settled issue.
