Tinubu and Obi Camps Brace Up Ahead of 2027 as Village Boys Launches Nationwide Movement

According to report by Vanguard on Friday, February 20, 2026, ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, political activity is intensifying as the newly launched Village Boys Movement in Abuja positions itself as a fresh grassroots platform, challenging existing narratives dominated by city-based political elites.

The initiative, unveiled on Thursday, signals a growing contest between supporters of President Bola Tinubu and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, each seeking to mobilize citizens at the local level.

The movement’s founder, Maazị Tochukwu Ezeoke, who calls himself the National Village Headmaster, described the group as a disciplined nationwide network rooted in “earned prosperity and service-driven leadership” rather than wealth or proximity to political power.

Ezeoke criticized what he termed the “City Boy culture,” which he argued rewards access to state resources and flaunts wealth without measurable contribution. “We represent a Nigeria that works before it earns and earns before it spends,” he stated.

The Village Boys Movement is built on three central principles: wealth should follow value, power should follow service, and leadership should follow accountability. Ezeoke emphasized that Nigerian politics has long favored connections over innovation and enterprise.

“This is not hostility toward cities,” he clarified, “but a moral distinction focused on the source of wealth, leadership ethics, and accountability structures.”

While highlighting Peter Obi’s governance style as an example of disciplined leadership, Ezeoke framed the endorsement as value-driven, noting, “He is not a messiah. Nigeria requires standards, not saviors.”

The group adopted the motto, “Unbought. Unafraid. Unstoppable,” reflecting a commitment to resisting vote-buying, intimidation, and patronage.

As part of its early activities, the movement plans a “Two Million Man March” across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, promising peaceful and volunteer-led rallies.

Beyond demonstrations, it aims to create village-level networks emphasizing civic education, budget monitoring, and election integrity.

Ezeoke urged young Nigerians to reject electoral inducements and intimidation, saying, “If you refuse to sell your vote, you are unbought. If you refuse to be intimidated, you are unafraid. If you organize lawfully and consistently, you are unstoppable.”
