Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that those behind the false report claiming Abuja schools were ordered to shut down will face consequences, stating that the aim was to damage the government’s image.
He made this clarification while addressing journalists in a video posted by Channels Television. Wike emphasized that the Federal Capital Territory Administration never issued any directive for schools to close.
He explained that he had contacted the Commissioner of Police and the Director of the State Security Services, and both agencies confirmed that no such decision existed.
He said individuals who circulated the misinformation acted to create public panic and undermine the credibility of the government, noting that Abuja hosts critical national institutions, including the Presidency, major security agencies, and foreign diplomatic missions.
Wike assured residents that security agencies remain fully prepared and are working tirelessly to maintain the capital’s peaceful environment. He urged the public not to panic, stressing that the government will continue to provide all necessary support to security operatives.
He dismissed the claim that threats had reached a level requiring school closures, noting that neighboring states such as Kaduna, Nasarawa, and Kogi had not shut down schools.
Wike questioned why the Federal Capital Territory would be the one to take such an extreme step when no official security advisory warranted it.
In his words, “The Federal Capital Territory Administration never one day gave an instruction for schools to be shut down. I’ve been in contact with the Commission of Police and the Director of State Security Services, and there has never been such a decision.
“Those who masterminded this will not go free. That’s to damage the image of the government. The President and Commander-in-Chief resides in Abuja
