They Just Exploded Teargas, Our Eyes And Throats Hurt; We’re Waiting For Our Leader, Sowore—Ejimakor

In a video shared by Viable TV, Aloy Ejimakor’s voice was undaunted as he spoke to reporters at the protest ground in Abuja on Monday morning. The scene around him was chaotic, smoke filled the air, people were running in different directions, and loud sounds echoed across the street. What happened moments earlier left him struggling to catch his breath.

Protesters had gathered as early as 6:50 a.m. near the Ministry of Women Affairs headquarters, led by activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore. Their mission was clear, to march to the Presidential Villa and demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

However, security forces made up of the Nigerian Police, DSS, Guards Brigade, and Civil Defense had already mounted roadblocks around key areas, including the Villa, National Assembly, and Eagle Square, to stop them from advancing.

When officers released teargas to disperse the crowd, panic broke out. Protesters coughed, their eyes burned, and many fled for safety.

It was at that moment that Ejimakor, Kanu’s lawyer and one of the protesters, revealed what he had just experienced.
