They Have Tried To Engage Kanu To See If He Can Renounce Biafra So They Will Release Him – Uche Ony

Former House of Representatives member, Hon. Uche Onyeagocha, has renewed calls for the immediate and unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). In a recent interview with Signature TV, Onyeagocha questioned the federal government’s continued prosecution of Kanu, describing it as unjust and politically motivated.

The former lawmaker criticized what he described as the government’s inconsistent handling of the case, suggesting that the legal process lacks credibility. According to Onyeagocha, the federal government’s demand that Kanu renounce the Biafran movement before being considered for release undermines the principles of justice and freedom of expression.

He insisted that the demand for Kanu’s release must be clear and uncompromising, emphasizing that it should come without conditions. Onyeagocha stated that the right to self-determination is enshrined in Nigerian law, and as such, Kanu and his supporters are within their legal rights to advocate for Biafra.

He claimed that the government’s hesitation to release Kanu stems from fear that the IPOB leader would resume his campaign for secession. However, Onyeagocha argued that Kanu should not be forced to abandon his beliefs in exchange for freedom, adding that such pressure only highlights the federal government’s discomfort with dissent.

In a broader context, Onyeagocha linked the Biafran agitation to the country’s ongoing political and economic instability. He questioned why people should be expected to give up the call for self-determination in a nation he believes is failing to deliver on governance, equity, and progress.

His comments contribute to ongoing national conversations around civil rights, separatist movements, and the Nigerian government’s handling of political opposition. See, More, Here>>>>
