During an interview on Trust TV, public affairs analyst Hakeem Baba-Ahmed spoke on Nigeria’s religious diversity and the need for tolerance among its citizens. He emphasized that despite being a multi-religious nation with over 240 million people, Nigerians have largely coexisted peacefully over the years.
Baba-Ahmed noted that Nigerians freely practice different religions and visit various places of worship without conflict, showing a deep level of understanding and coexistence among the people. However, he expressed concern over individuals who often create unnecessary tension by criticizing or opposing anything that relates to faith or religion.
In his words, “A nation of 240 million people live substantially in peace with the fact that we worship different gods. We go to different places of worship. We interact. So why is it that we allow people who blow the whistle at everything that even remotely smacks of faith? There’s nowhere in Christianity, to my knowledge — and I’m sorry if I don’t have the full texts to prove it.
