There’s No Gov Who Doesn’t Have A Plant In INEC, Managing It Is A Different Kettle Of Fish -Odinkalu

The former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, has described the newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, as a man stepping into one of Nigeria’s most politically complex institutions.

His statement was contained in the news published by CHANNELS TV on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

He made the remarks while discussing the challenges ahead for Amupitan following his swearing-in as INEC Chairman by President Bola Tinubu.

In the interview, Odinkalu said INEC is heavily influenced by powerful political actors and that nearly every senior politician has loyalists embedded within the commission.

He expressed concern about the difficulty of managing such an institution but also offered personal support for Amupitan.

Here is what Prof. Chidi Odinkalu said,

“There is no senior politician, from the presidency to state governors, who does not have a plant in INEC. Managing INEC is a different kettle of fish. I’m not a spectacularly churchous person, but I’ll be praying for him.
