Senior fellow at the Gatestone Institute, Gordon Chang, has called on U.S. President Donald Trump to cancel any planned visit to Beijing, citing concerns over China’s alleged support for Iran’s drone capabilities.
Speaking on Monday, March 23, 2026, during an interview on Fox Business, Chang pointed to what he described as an open acknowledgment by Chinese entities of their involvement in supplying drones to Iran.
“The Chinese are openly bragging about their production and sale of drones to Iran. And I think President Trump has to cancel his trip to Beijing,” he said.
Chang argued that such developments elevate the issue beyond trade or diplomacy, framing it instead as a matter of national security. He suggested that continued engagement with China under these circumstances could send the wrong signal, particularly at a time of heightened tensions involving Iran.
His remarks reflect growing scrutiny in some policy circles over China’s role in global security dynamics, especially in relation to military technology transfers. By urging the cancellation of diplomatic travel, Chang underscored the seriousness with which he views the alleged connections between Beijing and Tehran.
The comments add to the broader debate in Washington over how the United States should respond to China’s expanding global influence and its ties with countries involved in conflicts with U.S. interests…..See More
