A former lawmaker and social commentator recently stirred public discussion with a strong reaction to claims emerging about Nigeria’s past administration. His response came at a time when debates about responsibility, leadership, and truth have resurfaced following public reflections on the government of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
In his reaction shared on X, Shehu Sani criticised the growing trend of blaming unnamed cabals for the failures recorded during Buhari’s years in office. According to him, these so-called cabals are accused of controlling power, influencing decisions, and causing major setbacks, yet none of them has faced arrest, prosecution, or punishment. He questioned how such powerful figures could be blamed for everything, while no legal action has ever been taken against them.
Sani’s comments followed the release of a book tribute to the late former president, where several individuals who served in his administration shared their experiences. During the event, some former officials suggested that small groups around the president held excessive influence, blocked access to him, and weakened governance. Others spoke about how internal power struggles slowed decision-making and affected the performance of the government.
Another recent account claimed that these inner circles interfered even in personal matters, disrupting routines and creating tension within the presidency, which critics say reflected poorly on leadership effectiveness.
