Shehu Sani Recounts Series Of Killings Of Muslim Worshippers, Calls For National And Decisive Action

Nigerian senator and human rights advocate, Shehu Sani, has raised alarm over the continued abduction and killing of Muslim worshippers in Plateau State, calling for urgent national attention and decisive action.

This was contained in a statement posted on his verified X handle on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.

He made the remarks while reacting to reports that a group identified as the Plateau militia intercepted a convoy of Muslims traveling for their annual Maulud celebration and abducted them, demanding millions of naira in ransom.

In the post that has since gone viral, Sani recalled similar incidents, including the 2021 massacre of 26 Muslim worshippers and the June 2025 killing of 13 Kaduna-based Muslims in Mangu, Plateau State. He also referenced a report by the Jasawa Community Development Association (JCDA), which documented 4,700 Muslim worshippers killed in Plateau over the past 25 years.

The former lawmaker expressed concern over what he described as a disturbing silence from national voices and institutions, warning that selective outrage and lack of justice erode the country’s moral fabric.

Sani said;

“It has been reported that a terrorist group otherwise called Plateau militia,stopped a convoy of Muslims traveling for their annual Maulud,kidnapped them and up till now holding them hostage.They are asking for millions in ransom.Same incidents happened in 2021 were 26 worshippers passing through the plateau were killed in cold blood.In June this year,13 Kaduna Muslim travellers were brutally murdered in Mangu,Plateau.The Jasawa Community Development Association JCDA just compiled a list of 4700 Muslim worshippers killed in Plateau state in 25 years.All these happened without a strong voice of condemnation and without justice.Strong action must be taken against such a heinous crime of violence against travellers because of their religious identity.Selective outrage questions our morality and faith and cast a doubt on our humanity.”
