“Shariah Law Is The Muslims’ Prerogative, Just As The US Protects Christians” -Sheikh Gumi

Islamic cleric Sheikh Gumi has sparked renewed debate after defending the application of Shariah law, describing it as a legitimate right of Muslims. In a Facebook post, the outspoken scholar argued that Shariah law is “the Muslims’ prerogative,” drawing a comparison with the United States, which he said considers it necessary to protect Christian interests within its legal and cultural framework.

According to Gumi, religious communities should be permitted to uphold systems and principles that reflect their beliefs, provided they function within the broader framework of national unity and constitutional order. He suggested that opposition to Shariah law often arises from misunderstanding, misinformation, or deliberate misrepresentation of its purpose and scope.
