According to a report by Daily Post News, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026,Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has responded to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, over remarks made against his principal.
The reaction comes after Makinde criticized Wike for showing interest in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure in Oyo State during a National Executive Council meeting.
Olayinka’s response was aimed at defending the minister and addressing the governor’s comments directly.
Makinde had described Wike and members of his PDP faction as vagabonds while speaking at the opening of a new PDP secretariat on Tuesday.
The governor insisted that the Oyo chapter of the party remained stable, focused, and united, suggesting that Wike’s faction posed no threat to the state’s PDP leadership.
He used the term “vagabond” to describe political actors who act in self-interest, asserting that the Oyo PDP had already expelled such elements.
Speaking on the matter, Makinde said, “The vagabond in PDP, they grew up in 2015, they had their time and then 10 years, they practiced their vagabond in the PDP but they have been expelled in November 2025, so no more vagabond in PDP.”
The governor used the statement to emphasize that the Oyo PDP remains disciplined and loyal to its leadership, distancing the state chapter from Wike’s faction.
Reacting to the governor’s remarks, Olayinka labeled Makinde a “political vagabond” in a post on his official Facebook page.
He accused the governor of prioritizing personal political interests over loyalty and of being ready to sacrifice relationships and alliances for self-gain. Olayinka’s post highlighted the tension between the minister and the state governor within the PDP.
Olayinka further stated that Wike’s interest in the Oyo PDP structure is aimed at strengthening the party and ensuring its alignment with national goals.
He defended the minister’s commitment to the party, asserting that Wike seeks to support internal cohesion and effective leadership across all state chapters, including Oyo State.
The media aide also questioned Makinde’s criticisms, arguing that the governor’s characterization of Wike’s faction as vagabonds was unfair and politically motivated.
Olayinka pointed out that internal party dynamics often involve debates and differing opinions, but these should not undermine efforts to promote unity and growth within the PDP.
Olayinka concluded by reaffirming that Wike remains committed to the PDP and its development in Oyo State and nationwide.
The aide emphasized that the minister’s focus is on building strong party structures rather than engaging in personal attacks, positioning Wike as a disciplined leader workin to advance the party’s objectives.
