According to a report by The Cable on Sunday, January 11, 2026, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called for calm among residents, saying he does not raise his voice or complain about challenges in the state because he trusts that God is with him.
He made the remarks on Sunday during an interdenominational church service held to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
The service took place at St Cyprian’s Anglican Church in Port Harcourt, the state capital, and brought together clergy and members of the community to pray for peace and stability in the state.
During the service, prayers were offered for Governor Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu.
Following the prayers, Fubara was handed the microphone to address the congregation. In an unexpected move, he invited the deputy governor to deliver the speech on his behalf.
Fubara’s approach was lighthearted at times, as he jokingly suggested that the service might be the last public function for both him and his deputy.
Despite the humor, his remarks were aimed at reassuring the people about the state of affairs in Rivers and emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace.
In his brief address, Fubara encouraged residents to remain calm and assured them that peace would be restored in Rivers State.
He compared the current criticisms and unrest to barking dogs, suggesting that people sometimes react out of misunderstanding.
He explained that his calm approach stems from a belief in a higher power and divine guidance, which gives him confidence in managing the state’s affairs.
By highlighting his faith, Fubara sought to inspire confidence among residents and underline the role of patience and trust during challenging times.
The governor emphasized that the wellbeing of the state and its citizens is his priority.
He asked the people to remain relaxed and to focus on peace, which he described as essential for progress and stability.
Fubara’s remarks reflected a desire to calm tensions and assure the public that the government is committed to maintaining order and addressing the issues facing Rivers State.
He used the occasion to reinforce the message that leadership should be guided by both faith and responsibility rather than fear or panic.
He said, “Let me say it here, where we were making the New Year dinner, I said that, ‘dogs bark when they don’t understand’. A lot of you don’t understand that the reason why I don’t shout or complain is that I know that I have what is supreme, that is God. I want everyone to be relaxed. What is important is peace for this dear state. We will get it by the special name of God.
