According to a report by The Vanguard on Thursday, December 11, 2025, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State on Wednesday broke his long silence, saying he has endured severe political attacks simply because he refused to publicly tell his own side of the story in the state’s lingering crisis.
Speaking at the commissioning of the dualised Ahoada–Omoku Road, Fubara insisted he has no personal quarrel with the Martins Amaewhule-led House of Assembly members but accused them of refusing to attend any reconciliation meeting unless it is convened by his estranged political godfather, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
“I have made every effort to meet with them, but they don’t want me to call them directly. It was for my leader to arrange the meeting, which up till this moment that meeting has not been fixed,” Fubara said.
“So, how people go about saying I don’t want to meet them… that is pure lies. I have personally said whatever is their need, I am ready to meet it so that we can have peace in the state.
”The governor explained that his recent defection from PDP to APC was to create an atmosphere for development, stressing that “development can’t come to our state when there is continuous disunity.”
He thanked Rivers people for their support and President Bola Tinubu for standing by his administration, promising to take the Renewed Hope Agenda to every doorstep in the state.
“I have suffered too much because of single story. A lot of things happened and nobody has heard my own side,” Fubara declared, adding that he remains a “gentleman and a very principled person” who will not go behind anyone to divide the house.
The road project, he said, was a kept campaign promise to the people of Rivers West senatorial district.
