Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi has commended the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for what he described as firm but productive pressure that led to the construction of a major road project, joking that the road deserved to be named after the NSA.
Umahi made the remarks during an interview on SYMFONI TV at the Government House in Port Harcourt, where he spoke candidly about his working relationship with Ribadu and the results it has delivered. The former Ebonyi State governor said Ribadu’s insistence and determination played a critical role in ensuring that the road project was completed successfully.
“I must thank NSA honestly. I told him jokingly, I said that road should be named after you,” Umahi said with laughter. “They bullied me, they pushed me but I’m so happy working with him because he is a man that must get things done and I’m happy that all those efforts he made has yielded very serious success.”
According to Umahi, the collaboration between the Ministry of Works and the Office of the National Security Adviser underscores the importance of synergy among government agencies in delivering critical infrastructure that supports national development and security. He noted that beyond jokes about being “bullied,” the pressure reflected Ribadu’s commitment to ensuring that projects with strategic importance are not abandoned or delayed.
The minister emphasized that good governance sometimes requires firmness, especially when national interest is involved. He added that the completed road has already begun to make a positive impact on movement, economic activities, and overall security in the area.
