There have been diverse reactions amongst the general public and particularly social media users after the Burkina Faso government refused to release the detained Nigerian military officers and their aircraft. According to the statements which were shared on his official X handle, renowned former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani sent a strong warning to Burkina Faso president, Ibrahim Traore.
The news regarding the detention of eleven Nigerian military officers and their aircraft by the Burkina Faso government generated mixed reactions from different quarters after the reports went viral across various social media platforms.
The aircraft, which made an emergency landing in Burkina Faso, was intercepted and it’s occupants held for violating the country’s airspace. However, efforts to secure the swift release of the military personnel and the aircraft failed to yield positive results.
Reacting, Senator Shehu Sani, a renowned human rights activist and former Kaduna central senatorial district lawmaker in a recent statement which was shared on his official X handle, sent a strong warning to the Burkina Faso president, Ibrahim Traore.
According to his statements, he urged Ibrahim Traore to release the military officers and their aircraft as according to him, the continued detention was unconscionable and condemnable.
He further advised the military leader to act right as according to him, ‘a man who has many enemies by his door should not open his window’.
The statements from Senator Shehu Sani however, generated mixed reactions as many called for proper investigation into the whole debacle.
