In a recent interview with TVC News, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike discussed significant political exchanges within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), noting instances of disagreement and open dialogue among its leaders. He recalled a meaningful discussion between Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, stressing the need for clarity and unity in party decisions.

Wike explained that Ortom expressed support for Tinubu’s re-election, to which Makinde questioned, “Why would you say such a thing?” He highlighted that such interactions illustrate the constructive tension and debates typical in a functioning political organization. He emphasized that while differing viewpoints are inevitable, they should always conform to party rules and collective strategies to prevent unnecessary conflicts.

Wike reaffirmed that internal disagreements are inherent to governance and politics and should never eclipse the party’s broader goals. He asserted that effective leadership, consultation, and adherence to proper processes are essential for managing differences and ensuring that members prioritize the interests of both the party and the electorate.

Addressing accusations of impropriety or secret pacts within the PDP, Wike rejected any wrongdoing, asserting that his dealings with fellow leaders and government officials have been transparent. He underscored the importance of expressing ambition and personal views openly within the party structure to prevent misunderstandings or unfounded accusations.

Looking ahead, Wike emphasized the importance of patience and respect for established protocols in resolving conflicts and organizing conventions. He maintained that the PDP remains a strong national party with solid grassroots support, capable of overcoming challenges if leaders focus on unity and collective decision-making.

He also noted that the party should prioritize consensus-building, encouraging meaningful contributions from all members to the political process and ensuring that internal debates reinforce rather than undermine the PDP’s foundations.
