Onanuga Mocks Obi: ”Only His Onitsha Madman Advisor Would Trust Him with Nigeria”

In response to former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s recent political move, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, offered a scathing evaluation of Obi’s choice and his ongoing remarks regarding the 2023 general election.

Onanuga claimed to have seen Peter Obi formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), pointing out that this was following Obi’s separation from the Labour Party, which he had depended on to pursue his failed presidential campaign.

He said that after three years after the 2023 election, Obi was still bitter about his third-place performance and insisted that he was wrongfully excluded from winning.

Onanuga claimed that the available empirical analyses of the election results showed that Obi had no realistic chance of winning the poll and was actually lucky to have finished third, especially in light of what he called “irregular voting patterns recorded in the South East.”

Onanuga further noted that Obi’s demeanour at the event revealed residual resentment.

He voiced his disapproval of Obi’s frequent allusions to scholarly publications, foreign nations, and scholars in order to support his claim that he is uniquely equipped to govern Nigeria.

He warned that such assertions should be viewed with suspicion because they came from a politician who, in his opinion, performed poorly during his eight years as governor of Anambra State.

Bayo Onanuga criticized Peter Obi’s leadership capabilities, saying, “Because Obi sorely lacks the leadership pedigree, beyond being a successful importer, only the madman he consults in Onitsha would be comfortable handing over Nigeria to him.”

He argued that Obi’s approach to leadership is misguided, stating, “Obi’s reasoning is flawed. Nations are not identical, and what worked in Indonesia or the USA may not necessarily work in Nigeria.”

Onanuga emphasized the need for original thinking, saying, “No leader can move a country forward by simply copying and pasting models from elsewhere. Nations require original thinkers, not copycats. Homegrown solutions are essential for proper development.”
