Women’s rights advocate and activist, Aisha Yesufu, has assured former presidential candidate Mr Peter Obi of her full support following his decision to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Yesufu made this declaration after Peter Obi officially dumped the Labour Party to join the ADC, a coalition party positioned to take over Nigeria’s leadership. The development has continued to generate reactions across the political space, especially among supporters and political observers.
The assurance was made in a video shared by TheCable on December 31, 2025, where Aisha Yesufu spoke during the defection event of Peter Obi in Enugu State. In the video, she expressed her loyalty and commitment to Obi’s leadership, despite not being a formal member of any political party in the past.
According to her, she has always maintained her independence in politics but is now ready to take a bold step because of her belief in Peter Obi’s leadership and vision for Nigeria. She emphasized that her decision was personal and driven by conviction, not pressure.
In her words, Aisha Yesufu said:
“I want to say here, sir, dear Mr Peter Obi, I have never been in any political party. I have refused to be a card-carrying member of any political party, but as my leader, I give you my word that I will proudly be a card-carrying member of ADC.
