President Bola Tinubu has declared his unwavering support for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, amidst public criticism over his recent actions in Abuja.
The president made this known during a televised interview aired by ESET TV, where he addressed concerns about Wike’s alleged overreach in demolitions and land enforcement operations.
In the interview, President Tinubu dismissed fears that Wike could become a political burden, instead describing him as a high-performing minister who is committed to restoring order in the capital.
He emphasized that the real issue lies in the general public’s disregard for civic responsibilities, such as paying ground rents and complying with urban development regulations. According to Tinubu, Wike’s firm stance is necessary to correct years of neglect and lawlessness.
The president further explained that Nigerians often treat compliance as a burden rather than a duty, which has led to widespread disorder in the city.
His words: “He’s a good man, Nyesom Wike, he’s a performing minister. Nigerians lack compliance, period. We don’t pay our ground rents on time, we don’t characterize things to do, we see compliance as inconveniences. I duff my hat for him.
