Political Analyst Chris Maduka has attributed the legal confrontation between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to what he described as bruised ego at the highest level of Nigeria’s legislative leadership.
Speaking during an interview on Signature TV, Maduka reacted to the decision by Akpabio to take the matter involving Senator Natasha to the Supreme Court, describing the move as a reflection of how far the dispute has escalated. According to him, the stature of the Senate President makes the development particularly significant.
“The ego of the third strongest man in Nigeria, the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Akpabio, were touched probably because of the level that thing has gone,” Maduka said. He argued that when a political disagreement reaches such a stage, it ceases to be merely procedural and becomes personal and symbolic.
Maduka explained that the Senate President occupies a powerful position in the country’s political hierarchy and is expected to demonstrate restraint, tolerance, and leadership in moments of controversy. He warned that resorting to litigation against a fellow senator sends the wrong message about leadership maturity and institutional strength.
According to the analyst, the situation underscores deeper issues within the National Assembly, including internal power struggles and weak conflict-resolution mechanisms. He noted that disagreements among lawmakers are not unusual, but escalating them to the Supreme Court reflects a breakdown of trust and dialogue within the chamber.
