LP: You Can’t Just Say Because You’re A Governor Or Ex-Govrnor, You Can Take Over The Party- Ahmed

In a recent interview shared by Trust TV, the National Secretary of the Labour Party, Abdullahi Ahmed, dismissed claims by some political figures that they could influence or take control of the party’s leadership structure.

Ahmed, while responding to questions about the ongoing leadership tussle within the party, emphasized that the Labour Party operates strictly under its constitution and would not allow any individual, no matter their political status, to override its internal processes. “You can’t just say because you’re a governor or ex-governor, you can take over the party — it’s not possible,” he said.

He noted that the party’s leadership under Barrister Julius Abure remains legitimate and recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), urging aggrieved members to return to the negotiation table rather than attempting to impose themselves through external influence.

Ahmed warned that the Labour Party will continue to defend its constitution against all forms of manipulation or political intimidation, stressing that true leadership must emerge through internal democracy and the will of the party members.

He assured that the party remains focused on strengthening its national structure ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying discipline and constitutional order will guide every decision moving forward. See, More, Here>>>>
